Charan Khad
Charan Khad a slum with 800 dwellers and about 300 families, in lower Dharamshala in northern India, Himachal Pradesh.
Invited by a friend to visit the village Charan Khad was a great pleasure. To meet and talk to the inhabitants of the Slum, gave me the idea to take family Photos and give it to the Families. Unfortunately, the slum was since years under negative pressure, to abandon the area.
Family’s been living for 40 years on this land building houses and create a community.
After the first two days visiting Charan Khad, Tong-Len Charitable Trust, which care about the people of Charan Khad advised me not to go back to the village, because the authorities are on site and watch the betide.
The atmosphere in the village was already stressed out, my presence would have worsed the situation. What I absolutely understood and I wanted happy and contented villagers.
After 10 Days I went back and tried to meet the peoples of Charan Khad again, unfortunately the situation just got aggravated. Some policemen were back in the village and have started to intimidate residential.
On Friday 17th June, around 3pm, the local authority people and the police started destroying the community’s homes with their bulldozers. The residents appealed for some other land for resettlement or at least to be given more time to pack their belongings but there was no reprieve. The eviction continued until the evening and into the next day. The whole community was forcibly evicted into the streets.
The time I spend in Charan Khad, wasn't to show poverty, I wanted to meet the people who live there. I tell you, great people and we had a lot of fun.
I will go back to India and will tray to find the Families so we can continue the project to have the Families of Chara Khad there Famely photos.
